Dynamic Web Template (DWT)

Article ID: KB101230

A Dynamic Web Template is a feature of FrontPage 2003, Expression Web, or Dreamweaver which allows you to create web pages that share the same underlying layout. In a DWT, you can define some regions to be editable and prevent others to be non-editable. This allows the web pages based on that DWT to have the underlying design preserved. When the actual DWT file is modified, all pages based on that DWT will have those changes applied, similar to the idea of FrontPage's Include Pages or Dreamweaver's Libraries.

Several different DWTs can be used in a site. For example, a site may have a one-column DWT, a two-column DWT, and a three-column DWT. The DWTs may be attached to as many pages as you'd like. Detaching a DWT does not remove the layout, but causes the page to no longer be "attached" to the DWT - it basically turns it into a "normal" web page. Any changes made to the original DWT will no longer affect that page.
