Applying a template to your TypePad blog

Applying a template design to your TypePad blog is very simple! The instructions below are from our PDF "Getting Started" document. You can also view a video of the process by clicking the Launch Movie button.

Download your PixelMill TypePad template. PixelMill TypePad templates will come in a zip file. Extract these files/folders to your hard drive. When your files are extracted you should have the following:

  1. images folder with graphic files
  2. custom.css file
  3. template specific read me file

It is recommended that you create a backup copy of your new PixelMill template for safe keeping.

  1. To apply your new design, first log into your TypePad account.
  2. Click the Control Panel tab.

  3. Click the Files tab.

  4. Create a new folder. Your folder must be named the exact name specified in the product specific readme file.

  5. Once your new folder has been created, click on the folder link to open it.

  6. Upload the image files from your package “images” folder directly into your new folder. You will have to upload each image individually.

  7. Once you have all of your images uploaded, click on the Weblogs tab at the top of the page.

  8. Once you are on the weblogs page, you will see a list of your weblogs. Click the name of the blog that you would like to apply the template to.

  9. Now, click the Design tab.

  10. Click the New Design link.

  11. Step 1: Pick your desired layout. Click the button at the bottom of the page to continue to Step 2.

  12. Step 2: Pick your desired content areas. Continue to Step 3...

  13. Step 4: Select Pre-defined Theme. In the Show dropdown menu, select Classic. In the selections below, pick the Minimalist Theme. Continue to Step 5...

  14. Step 5: Name your new design. You may Save and Apply the design.

  15. Now click Edit Custom CSS.

  16. Open the customstyle.css file in a text editor (you may open it in NotePad). When you have your customstyle.css file open, select Ctrl-A (to select all), then Ctrl-C (copy). Now go back to your TypePad page in your browser and click inside the Custom CSS Text Box and select Ctrl-V (paste) to paste your custom css code. Click Save Changes.

  17. If you need to, click Republish Weblog.

  18. Then, click Publish in the pop-up window.

  19. Click the View Weblog link to view your new weblog design!

You can always go to the Weblogs tab > Design tab > Saved Designs to apply a different design to your blog, or to apply the design to your other TypePad blogs.
