Subwebs
Article ID: KB101117
Subwebs are essentially a FrontPage or Expression web site within a FrontPage web site.
They may also be referred to as "subsites." The URL for a subweb is usually the parent URL, with a slash followed by the folder name.
For example, if the parent web site is http://www.yoursite.com, with the subweb in a folder called "differentweb," the URL for the subweb is "http://www.yoursite.com/differentweb."
In FrontPage, a subweb folder contains its own FrontPage metadata,
allowing it to have its own navigation structure,
reports, etc. Similarly in Expression Web, a subweb has its own reports, folder list, etc.
A subweb is essentially "separate" from the parent web site...
in fact, no one will even know that it exists unless you provide a link to it.
This means that you can publish sites to a subweb of an existing web site for
testing purposes. For example, if you're working on a local web and want to
quickly show your client what it looks like, you can publish the web site to a
subweb of your own domain and send them the link, then delete the subweb off
your server after the client has seen it.
Subweb folders are distinguished from "normal" folders by the
web folder icon. In the diagram below, "_private," "about,"
"forums," etc. are normal folders, while "sample-bizgroup,"
"sample-myresume," and "sample-realestate" are subwebs.

In FrontPage or Expression Web, you can also convert any folder to be a
subweb. Doing this will "disconnect" the files within the folder from the
navigation structure of your parent web site.
