Apply Styles Task Pane
Article ID: KB101755
The Apply Styles task pane allows you to easily apply styles to elements on your web page.
Apply Styles task pane

When you have a page open in Expression Web, the Apply Styles task pane shows all available styles from any imported, linked, or internal style sheets.
Each style has a colored icon next to it:
- Blue: Element-based styles
- Red: ID-based styles
- Green: Class-based styles
- Circled icon: Used on current page
If you don't know what these terms mean, please take a look at Learning CSS.
In general, you can apply class-based (green) styles multiple times on a page. ID-based styles can only be applied once on a page, and usually they are associated with specific layout areas.
To apply a style, first select the element you wish to format by clicking within the element in Design View. You may also click on the element tab, or, to apply the style to only a specific section of text, highlight and select the text.
Then, click on the style within the Apply Styles task pane. In the diagram below, I've placed my cursor within the paragraph and then selected the "red" class.
Applying a style.

The diagram below shows the red style applied to the text. You can see that the tab now says "p.red", indicating that the red style has been applied to that element.

You can apply multiple styles by holding the CTRL key and then clicking another style. In this example below, I've applied the "highlight" class as well.
