Creating a new web from a zipped web package (Expression Web)
Article ID: KB101717
PixelMill web templates in .zip format usually come with a "starter web
site" folder. This starter web folder includes some predesigned pages with
sample content to make it easier for you to get started. Once you have the
starter web site folder open, you can add or delete pages, rename the pages,
and begin adding your content.
The instructions below apply to both Dynamic Web Template starter web sites
as well as classic starter web sites.
- Download the .zip to your computer.
Any location will work.
- Extract the folder using
WinZip or the built-in Windows
compression tool. You can download a
trial version of the leading compression
program, WinZip, from
here.
- The developer will usually include a folder with the starter web site.
This folder may be called "web", "starter", or something
similar. (See template documentation if necessary.) You will find .htm or .html files
and other folders inside the starter web folder. Copy the starter web folder to
your My Webs directory. You may rename
it if you wish. Moving the folder to
your My Webs directory is optional.
- Open Expression Web and go to File > Open Site
- Browse to your My Webs directory,
then find the web folder you just
copied. Select that folder and click
Open.
Expression Web will open this web site
folder so that you may begin editing.
