Applying a Template to ProStores Site

This article gives a general overview for applying a ProStores-Enabled template design to your ProStores site. However, some template packages may have specific steps to take that are not discussed here. You should look at the readme document included with your package for full, detailed instructions.

1. Log into your ProStores account and click on the "My Store" link.
2. Click on "Store Administration." A new window will open.
3. Now go to Store Design > Design Settings.
4. In the Store Version dropdown, select your new Store Version name.
5. Upload your logo if necessary...
   1. In the Logo section, click "Change."
   2. Select "I will use a new store logo" and click the "Browse" button to upload your logo, then click Save.
6. You don't have to do anything to the "Theme" section. If you want, you can change the Home Page, Product List, and Product Detail layouts.
7. Change the fonts and colors...
   1. In the "Fonts and Colors" section, click "Change."
   2. Set the fonts and colors to the suggested fonts and colors that came with the template readme file. Click Save. 3/19/07 - ProStores has changed the way that colors are defined. Some of the color keywords may not work. If you need assistance finding the proper color code to use, please contact PixelMill support.
8. Upload images...
   1. Now, click the plus sign next to "Support" and click "Upload Images."
   2. Scroll down to the "Store Design Images" section.
   3. Select your Store Version name, then click "Browse" and find the images.zip file that came with your template. Finally, change the file type to "Multi-Image Zip Archive" and click "Upload."
9. Recommended: Modify header template file...
   1. In Windows Explorer, look for the header template file, which is usually called header.tpl and is inside the "templates" folder.
   2. Right-click and choose Open With..., then choose NotePad.
   3. The readme file should tell you which line of code to go to. You'll want to find this code:
      <ss:link src="$templateSet.homePage"><ss:image source="$store.storeLogo" alt="Home" /></ss:link>
   4. Change the "Home" text to your company name.
   5. Go to File > Save to save the file. You may close NotePad.
10. Import and replace templats...
    1. Now go to Store Design > Page Template Manager. Make sure your Store Version is selected.
    2. Check the checkboxes next to Footer and Header. (If your template also comes with a storefront template, check the Home Page checkbox as well.)
    3. In the blue bar, look for the dropdown that says "More Actions." Choose "Import and Replace Page Template."
    4. Click the Browse buttons to select the header.tpl and footer.tpl (and storefront.tpl, if included) templates, then click "Import and Replace."
11. To view your changes, select the page template checkboxes again and then click "Publish." Click Publish again on the next page to confirm.
12. Click the Preview link (next to the Store Version dropdown) to preview your new store design.

This applies a new design to your Store Version but does not set it as the default design. Next: Learn how to set the design to be your default store design.
