Specifying the Location for a New Web

Article ID: KB101122

When creating a new web, you may specify it to be a local (disk-based) or server-based web site.

Local web

You may create a new web and specify the location to be on your computer. By default, new webs are usually created in your "My Documents\My Webs" folder, usually as subwebs called "myweb1," "myweb2," etc. You may change the name of the subweb folder, or even the location, by clicking the "Browse" button and browsing to a new location on your computer.

Server-based web

You may create a server-based web if you are publishing to a web site that has FrontPage server extensions or Windows SharePoint Services. In this case, you simply type the URL of your web site ("http://www.yoursite.com"), and include a subfolder if you wish to publish to a subsite ("http://www.yoursite.com/subsite").
