The first tab is the Appearance tab, which allows you to control the display
properties of the image, such as width, height, and alignment.
- Wrapping style - Allows you to "wrap" text so it flows around the image.
These are three options available in the Layout > Alignment dropdown
(default, left, and right).
- Layout
- Alignment - Sets the alignment of the image. Most common choices are
left, right, or absmiddle. (Learn
more about image alignment.)
- Border thickness - Sets the thickness of a border around the image.
The border is typically black, but if the image is a hyperlink, the
border will revert to the default hyperlink color of the web site.
- Horizontal/vertical spacing - Allows you to set additional blank
spacing around the image, if you wish to separate it more from the text
around it.
- Size - By default, the size will be specified. This areas allows you to
change the size of an image if desired. (Learn
more about recommended usage of images.)
- Style - The style button allows you to have more options for formatting
images. (In FrontPage 2003; FrontPage 2002 has it in the General tab.)

The General Tab gives more options for images:
- Picture - This allows you to browse to a different picture.
- Picture File Type - This allows you to convert your picture file into
another
graphic type (for example, from gif to jpg). We do not recommend using
it, as any other professional image editor will do a better job of
converting and optimizing web graphics.
- Alternative representatives
- Low-Res - If you have a low-resolution version of the image to
compensate for a large graphic file size, you may browse to the
low-resolution image here. People with slow connection speeds may be
able to set their browsers to download the low-resolution image instead.
(If you can optimize your image graphic in an image editor, you will
most likely never have to use this option.)
- Text - This is very important! Provide an "alternative text"
description so that search engines and people with disabilities can read
about your image. (Learn
more about adding text.)
- Long Description - If the "alternative text" area isn't long enough
to describe an image - for example, if you have a complicated chart or
graph, the long description field allows you to link to another page
that describes the image. This is also recommended to help make your
site more accessibility-friendly for people with disabilities.
- Default hyperlink - If you want to link your picture to a web page or
file, you may use this section to define the hyperlink. You may also use the
Insert Hyperlink command.
- Style - The style button allows you to have more options for formatting
images. (In FrontPage 2002; FrontPage 2003 has it in the Appearance tab.)
