Making Images Into Links

Article ID: KB101176

  1. Start with a web-ready graphic that you wish to turn into a hyperlink.
  2. If you haven't already, insert the graphic onto your web site.
  3. Then, click on the image and then go to Insert > Hyperlink or click the "Insert Hyperlink" button on the toolbar.
  4. The "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box will appear.
    • Click the buttons on the left to link to a web page, a bookmark, a new page, or an email address.
    • Or, browse your current web or the internet to find the page you want to link to, or simply type in the url or path name.
    • Click &qut;Target Frame" to specify if you want your link to open up in the same window, a new window, or a specific frame (if your web uses frames).
  5. After specifying your link parameters, click "OK." You may always right-click on your link and select "Hyperlink Properties" to change them.

It is also possible to create "hot spots" on a graphic so that different areas of an image are hyperlinked.

  1. Start with a web-ready graphic that you wish to turn into a hyperlink.

  2. If you haven't already, insert the graphic onto your web site.
  3. Click on the image to select it. If the Pictures toolbar does not appear, go to View > Toolbars > Pictures.
  4. The right side of the toolbar contains hotspot tools. You may create rectangular, circular, or polygonal-shaped hotspots. The polygon tool pretty much allows you to create a custom hotspot shape. Choose the type of hotspot that you wish to create by clicking on the related icon.
  5. When you move your mouse over the picture, the cursor will change into a pencil. Draw your hotspot by clicking and dragging your mouse to cover the area that you want linked.
  6. When you let go, the Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear.
    • Click the buttons on the left to link to a web page, a bookmark, a new page, or an email address.
    • Or, browse your current web or the internet to find the page you want to link to, or simply type in the url or path name.
    • Click "Target Frame" to specify if you want your link to open up in the same window, a new window, or a specific frame (if your web uses frames).
  7. After specifying your link parameters, click "OK.&qut; You may always right-click on your link and select "Hyperlink Properties" to change them.
  8. You may create multiple hotspots on a graphic. Do not let your hotspots overlap.
