Modifying Theme Colors

Article ID: KB101332

Using the Modify Theme interface, you may change:

  • Hyperlinks - the color of the text hyperlinks.
  • Body - the color of the normal text.
  • Background - the color of the background when a background picture is not used.
  • Heading 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 - the colors of the Heading text.
  • Hyperlink (Active) - the color of the text hyperlinks when you click on them
  • Hyperlink (Followed) - the color of hyperlinks that you have already visited
  • Banner Text - the color of the banner text
  • Navigation Text - the color of the text on the navigation buttons (except for the global buttons - see above)
  • Table Border - the color of table borders

Note - If you want your Theme to apply with cascading style sheets (FP2003 does not have any other option), you may make most of these color changes by creating styles in the Modify Text context. If using this interface is easier to start out with, then there is no need to modify everything in the Modify Text mode.

How-to

  1. Go to the Themes customization window.
  2. Click the colors button.
    FrontPage 2002 FrontPage 2003

  3. While you may try to use an existing color scheme, most likely you will wish to create your own custom color scheme. Click the Custom tab.

  4. Use the drop-down list to choose which colors you want to change, then use the color drop-down to pick your color. (Learn more about choosing colors.)

  5. The Theme Preview will show the new color scheme. In this rather extreme example, we changed the background color to blue.

  6. Special exception: Changing the color of the Navigation Text will change the color of the text on buttons except for the global/top-level button text. To change the color of the global button text, you must go to Modify Text, click on More Text Styles, select mstheme-topbar-font, click Format and select Font, then finally change the color. There are only a few colors that you may use... using a non-standard color will revert to the closest standard color.

  7. After you have finished changing the colors, click "OK" to exit the color editing mode..
