Applying a Theme to a Page or Web in FrontPage

Article ID: KB101209

FP 2000 | FP 2002 | FP 2003

Frontpage 2003

FrontPage themes define the navigation buttons, headings, banners, bullets, horizontal rules, font colors and styles, and other key elements of page layouts. Unlike previous versions of FrontPage, FrontPage 2003 applies themes with "cascading style sheets" automatically. This means that older Themes may not format correctly in Netscape or Mozilla browsers. You should test your web site in other browsers and if necessary, use a different Theme or modify your Theme.

  1. With your web site open in FrontPage, go to Format/Theme.

  2. The Themes task-bar in the right column will appear. Scroll down your list of Themes until you find your desired Theme.

  3. With "Vivid Colors," "Active Graphics," and "Background Picture" selected as desired, click on the Theme and choose "Apply as default theme" to apply the Theme to your entire web site. If you just want to apply the Theme to a few pages, first option-click the pages in your Folder List to select them, and then choose "Apply to selected pages."

  4. If you choose "Apply as default theme," you will receive a prompt. Click OK.

  1. In FrontPage, go to Format/Theme.

  2. The Themes window will pop up. First, select whether you want to apply the theme to the current page or to the entire web.

  3. Then, choose your theme from the list of themes. You may view the preview.

  4. Decide what options you would like for the theme. You will probably want to check "Vivid Colors," "Active Graphics," and "Background Image." Those who are comfortable with FrontPage's use of Styles may wish to click "Apply Using CSS."

  5. Finally, click "OK." If you are applying the theme to the entire web, you may get a dialog box asking if you are sure that you want to do this. Go ahead and click OK.
