Creating Paypal Buttons

Article ID: KB101591

Before you get too far:

A free add-on exists for FrontPage that helps you to easily create FrontPage buttons. Visit www.auctionmessenger.net/paypal to download it!

How to create PayPal Buttons using FrontPage and PayPal's web site:

First, you will need:

  • A web site with a catalog layout.
  • A PayPal Premier or Business account.
  1. In FrontPage, open the page where you want to insert a PayPal button. It's possible that you already have an existing non-functional button graphic. You can leave it there for now.
  2. In a browser, go to www.paypal.com. Log in using your PayPal member account.
  3. Click on the "Merchant Tools" tab.
  4. Click on the "PayPal Shopping Cart" link.
  5. You'll be brought to a page where you can enter your item information. Enter the name of the product, ID number if necessary, and price. You may click the "Add more Options" button at the bottom of the page to configure custom shipping prices, add "options" to your product (size, color, etc.), and more.
  6. When you're done, click the "Create Button Now" option. You'll be brought to a page that has HTML code for your product button as well as code for a "View Cart" button.

  7. Copy the code from the first box (Add to Cart Button Code).
  8. Go to your FrontPage web page. Place your cursor in the area where you wish to insert the button. If you have an existing button image, place your cursor above or below it.
  9. Then, switch to HTML view. Paste the PayPal code into the HTML.

  10. Switch to Normal View to take a quick look at the PayPal button.
  11. Now, let's get your custom image in place of the PayPal graphic. (If you don't have a custom image, you can skip this step.) Switch again to HTML view and look for the image code from YOUR add to cart image. It should be near the FORM code that you pasted in. Copy the image "src" and paste it in place of the PayPal image "src."

  12. Switch back to Normal View. Delete your original button graphic.
  13. Preview your web page in a browser (File > Preview in Browser) to test your PayPal button!
  14. Then, return to PayPal to create more buttons.

Notes...

  • The PayPal button code uses a form to pass the price, product name, your PayPal email address, and more. Forms will automatically have white space above and below them. This is something that you will just have to accept!
  • You may follow similar steps to insert the "View to Cart" code in another place on your site.
