META tags
Article ID: KB101500
To finish up your web site, you'll want to get familiar with the META tag.
The META element provides "meta-information" about your page - that is,
information about the information in your page. You will probably use the META
tag for descriptions, keywords, and other similar information.
Some examples of how you can use the META element:
<meta name="keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2, keyword3, keyword4,
keyword5">
<meta name="description" content="A description of your web site here.">
<meta name="refresh" content="10">
Explanations:
- keywords - Type a list of your keywords, separated by commas.
Most search engines compare this list of keywords with your actual page
content to make sure that it is relevant. Other search engines don't look at
this list at all.
- description - Give a description of your web site. Most search
engines compare the description with your actual page content to make sure
it is relevant.
- refresh - This meta tag can be used if you want to refresh your
page every so often. In this case, the page will refresh every 10 seconds.
Note...
You will dramatically improve your search engine ranking if you use the same
keywords or key phrases in the <title> tag as well as the keyword and
description meta tags. Make sure to use your keywords and key phrases as often
as is practical in the body of your page. If your domain name contains your
keywords, it's even better!
